How to Reuse Jar Lids for Painting

When you use jars of food to prepare your meals, keep the jar lids as containers to hold paint for craft projects. Lid paint holders are especially helpful if you have a child who enjoys painting but does not have the fine motor skills to hold an artist's palette in her hand as she paints a picture.

Instructions

    • 1

Place six jar lids onto a flat surface. Make sure that the jar lids are clean, dry, free of residue and debris.

    • 2

Squeeze tempera paint into each lid, using one color per lid. For example, squeeze red tempera paint into one lid and yellow tempera paint into a separate lid. Repeat this with orange, green, blue and purple tempera paint.

    • 3

Dip a paintbrush into the lids in order to use the paints.

    • 4

Cut out a circle from heavy duty freezer bag for each lid. Make sure to adjust the measurements of each circle so that it is 1 inch wider than the lid.

    • 5

Place a plastic bag circle over each lid and wrap a rubber band around it to secure the circle onto the lid. This will ensure that the tempera paint does not dry out when you are no longer painting.
