What materials did Edouard Manet use in his artwork?
Edouard Manet used a variety of materials in his artwork, including oil paint on canvas, pastel, charcoal, and watercolor. Though most often a painter of portraits and scenes of contemporary life, he made a number of prints, including etchings and lithographs. While he rarely used watercolours throughout his career, there is a series of them made in 1879 during his stay in Switzerland. He also worked in pastels, most famous of which is the portrait of his wife, "Berthe Morisot with a Fan".
