Who discovered poinsettias?

The poinsettia was not discovered, as it is a naturally occurring plant. However, it was introduced to the Western world by Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first United States Ambassador to Mexico, in the 1820s.

He brought the plant back to his home in South Carolina, where it eventually became popular as a decorative plant during the Christmas season.
