What is schotty diode?

A Schottky diode is a semiconductor diode formed by the junction of a metal and a semiconductor. The metal is typically a high work function metal such as platinum, gold, or nickel, while the semiconductor is typically a low work function semiconductor such as silicon or gallium arsenide.

The Schottky diode has several advantages over the conventional p-n junction diode. It has a lower forward voltage drop, which makes it more efficient. It also has a higher reverse breakdown voltage and a lower capacitance. These properties make the Schottky diode ideal for use in high-frequency applications, such as switching power supplies and radio frequency devices.

The Schottky diode also has some disadvantages. It is more susceptible to noise and has a higher leakage current than the p-n junction diode. However, these disadvantages can be minimized by careful design and process control.

Schottky diodes are widely used in electronic devices, such as computers, cell phones, and televisions. They are also used in solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and other optoelectronic devices.
